The Gonzalez lab contains a room for a Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence microscope and associated lasers and other equipment. In order to maintain the precise temperature requirements necessary to use the instrument, it was necessary to install a separate split air conditioning unit to serve the room containing the TIRF microscope. The condensing unit is located two floors away in a mechanical room. In addition to the microscope, the room is equipped with benches, fume hoods, glassware washer, ovens and freezers.
